4 February 2025

A woman holds a cardboard sign reading 'Culture: programmed destruction of culture, everything will disappear'. Several trade unions, mainly SUD and the CGT, call for a gathering in front of one of the buildings of the Toulouse Metropole to protest against sweeping cuts. The mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR right), and the head of Toulouse Metropole demand sweeping cuts across the board. In his line of sight are sectors of culture (theaters, activities for children, public libraries), sports such as public swimming pools, science popularization (Quai des Savoirs, National Museum of Natural History), social services, and even school canteens. He plans to allocate more money to security cameras (more than 4,000 planned for 2025) and local police. The French government demands the cuts due to a significant shortfall in public finances. The cuts are planned to be anywhere between -60% and -30% of their latest budgets in Toulouse, France, on February 4, 2025.
