A plane takes off, seen through the collapsed rooftop of damaged houses, following a fire that engulfs at least 800 houses in Bacoor, Cavite, the Philippines, on September 12, 2024. The fire breaks out in the early hours of September 10 and displaces nearly 1,000 families, with many taking shelter in nearby evacuation centers where assistance and relief efforts are provided. The accident occurs in a densely populated compound, where houses mainly made of iron sheets, wood, and combustible materials are built within narrow streets, making it difficult for rescuers to conduct emergency operations. This is one of the major fire disasters that make Filipinos homeless this year. Research and reports by NGOs find that heightened electricity, straining power lines, and combustible materials such as dry leaves, grass, and garbage, which are susceptible to ignition from sun exposure or discarded cigarettes, are some of the reasons why the Southeast Asian country is prone to fire.

Kerala PSC Civil Police Officer rank holders are holding a 63-day strike outside the Kerala Secretariat building in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala, India, on April 10, 2024. Kerala PSC Civil Police Officer rank holders are claiming that the government is not taking appropriate steps to secure appointments for rank holders remaining students due to a financial crisis. In April last year, the PSC published a rank list of 13,975 individuals for the post of Civil Police Officers, with only 3100 being appointed. The government is claiming there are insufficient vacancies to accommodate everyone. Many in the rank list are already exceeding the age limit for eligibility, leaving them with few options. Protestors are asking why an exam was conducted and a rank list issued for a category with no vacancies.
