Police officers inspect each motorists at quarantine checkpoint in Marcos Highway, Metro Manila, Philippines as the Philippine government orders to activate the border control in National Capital Region on August 1, 2021. Days before the reimposition of strictest lockdown in Metro Manila on August 6 to August 20, 2021 due to surging numbers of COVID-19 cases and with the confirmed presence of more contagious Delta Variant in the Philippines, government starts to deploy personnels in quarantine checkpoints in NCR to ensure that only Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (APOR) will be allowed to travel in and out. As of July 31, 2021, the Department of Health added 8,147 new cases and brings the total to almost 1.6 million COVID-19 cases with 27,889 deaths since the pandemic hit the Philippines.
