A stray dog is seen as people walk near the Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on May 21, 2026. India's Supreme Court on May 19, 2026, declines to modify its November 7, 2025, order directing all states and union territories to remove stray dogs from high-footfall public areas such as hospitals, schools, railway stations, and bus terminals. The court also clarifies that stray dogs cannot be reintroduced into these institutional spaces even after being vaccinated and sterilized. India reports millions of dog-bite cases each year, with more than 480,000 cases and at least 42 rabies-related deaths recorded in parts of the country during the first months of 2026 alone. Official data shows that 212,968 dog-bite cases are reported across the Union Territory between 2022 and 2025, with Srinagar district alone accounting for 36,406 cases, the highest among all districts.

The interior of a historic Catholic church in the Casentino area of Arezzo province, Tuscany, Italy, on April 9, 2026. The photograph is taken from the rear of the nave toward the main altar, showing multiple stone arches spanning the wide nave lined with dark wooden pews under mixed natural and artificial light. A large clock face is visible on a column to the right, alongside baroque side altars and marble chapel enclosures. The pipe organ and a gilded main altar are visible at the far end. A small notice rests on the nearest pew, indicating visiting hours or devotional guidelines. The absence of worshippers conveys the characteristic midday stillness of Italian provincial churches.

Tensions in the Middle East have increased volatility in global oil, gas, and petroleum markets, with crude prices rising due to concerns over potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Gold prices have also remained volatile as investors react to geopolitical risks, inflation expectations, and a stronger United States dollar.
