Rita Bullwinkel is an American writer and creative writing professor at the University of San Francisco. She is the author of the short story collection ''Belly Up'' and the novel ''Headshot,'' known for her exploration of violence, identity, and female ambition. Bullwinkel is a recipient of the Whiting Award and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction. She is photographed in Barcelona, Spain, on October 9, 2025.
