In Queens, New York, on August 22, Scott Munro, President of the Detectives' Endowment Association, Mayor Eric Adams, and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch brief the media after a Queens South Narcotics detective is shot in the arm and leg during an attempted carjacking response near the Whitestone Expressway and 22nd Road. The officer, a 12-year NYPD veteran, is in stable condition following surgery at Jamaica Hospital. Mayor Adams later visits the detective and his family.
