It is currently displaying a terminal open raceme up to 25 cm long with showy, deep-yellow papillonaceous flowers. The plant is growing to a height of 3-9 ft and has a lengthy tap root with vigorous lateral roots. The fruit of the Crotalaria juncea, or sunn hemp, is a cylindrical, hairy pod containing many seeds and turns light brown when mature. It measures about 3-6 cm long and 1-2 cm in diameter. The fruit is also called a 'rattlepod' because of the clustered seeds in the pod.
