Two people are dying in a fatal motor vehicle crash on I-80 Eastbound in Hackensack, New Jersey, United States, on May 21, 2024. New Jersey State Police Troopers are responding to a motor vehicle crash on Tuesday evening at 11:43 p.m. on I-80 east milepost 66.6 in Hackensack, New Jersey. Based on a preliminary investigation, a Toyota SUV is traveling eastbound on I-80 local lanes. A Volvo tractor-trailer is traveling eastbound on I-80 express lanes. An Isuzu box truck and GMC SUV are traveling westbound in the express lanes. In the area of milepost 66.6, the Toyota is striking the curbed median, entering the express lanes, and impacting the Volvo tractor-trailer. As a result, the Volvo is striking the center concrete median and entering the I-80 westbound express lanes. The Volvo tractor-trailer is then impacting the Isuzu box truck, subsequently causing the Isuzu to enter the I-80 westbound local lanes and ignite into flames. The GMC is then colliding with the Volvo tractor-trailer. As a result of the crash, the driver and passenger of the Isuzu are being pronounced dead. The identities of the driver and passenger of the Isuzu are pending confirmation. The driver of the Volvo tractor-trailer, a 63-year-old male from Temple, Texas, and the passenger, a 60-year-old male from Killeen, Texas, are sustaining serious injuries and are being transported to the hospital. The driver and passenger of the GMC are sustaining minor injuries. There are no other reported injuries.
