Guelaguetza Festival In Mexico City
Women from the Cananea folkloric ballet and other folkloric dance groups from Iztapalapa, Mexico City, are performing the dance of the Oaxacan chinas (women with braids in their hair, dress and a basket) on the eve of the Guelaguetza Festival of the State of Oaxaca, which represents the state's most important festival. The Guelaguetza has its origins in pre-Hispanic times; it is worth mentioning that this festivity began with a ritual that was done to the ancient gods in a place called by the Zapotecs as Daninayaaloani or hill of beautiful view.
