Guelaguetza Festival In Mexico City

Women from the Ballet Folklorico de Cananea and other folkloric dance groups from Iztapalapa, Mexico City, are performing the fandango de las varitas (women wearing a white handkerchief and skirt) on the eve of the Guelaguetza Festival in the State of Oaxaca, which is the state's most important festival. The Guelaguetza has its origins in pre-Hispanic times, and it is worth mentioning that this festivity began with a ritual that was done to the ancient gods in a place called by the Zapotecs as Daninayaaloani or hill of beautiful view.
