Tour Of Lublin Voivodeship
LUKOWA, POLAND - JULY 09, 2023: The tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the cemetery in Lukowa, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland on July 09, 2023. In 1939 and 1944, Lukowa village and its surroundings saw clashes between Polish soldiers (Army Krakow in 1939 and Peasant Battalions in 1944) and the Nazis. After pacification, the Germans killed 13 people, deported 300 residents to a camp in Tarnogrod, and burned 24 farms. In mid-1943, the municipal office was destroyed three times by the Gwardia Ludowa communist underground. On 23-24 October 1943, Home Army units attacked and destroyed a Ukrainian police post serving the Germans, killing 12 policemen and the village mayor. (Photo by Artur Widak/NurPhoto)
