Food Train arrives in Kharkiv and Izium

In Kharkiv, Ukraine, on November 24, 2023, a cook from the Food Train is putting containers with dishes into a box for the residents at the railway station. The autonomous Food Train, built and maintained by the Ukrainian Railways and financed by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, embarked on its maiden voyage from Kyiv to Kharkiv and Izium. On its first trip, the train is delivering Thanksgiving meals to local residents and Ukrainian emergency workers, paramedics, and police officers working in the region. The train comprises six carriages, including a generator car, a refrigerator car, a cold kitchen car, a hot kitchen car, a crew car with a shower and washing machine, and a luggage car equipped with a 27,000-liter water reservoir, a filtration station, and a pumping station. The Food Train can operate autonomously using its generators and water supply for up to 7 days and is capable of delivering 10,000 hot meals per day to regions in Ukraine that have sustained serious damage to their logistic and power networks across de-occupied territories.
