Orientais Celebrate The Entrance Of The Year 2024
People are celebrating the arrival of the year 2024 in the Liberdade neighborhood in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on December 31, 2023. They are attending the traditional festival of the cookie of prosperity. The event involves distributing moti - a dumpling made from a batter of beaten rice - and ozoni, a soup that includes the same dumpling. According to the belief, eating the dumpling on the first day of the new year brings prosperity and long life. A Shinto ceremony is also being held, led by Reverend Kazuo Osaka of the Nambei Jingu Temple. This ceremony includes the ritual of chinowa, the circle of purification.
