Polo Bawa Fishing Festival 2024
Children are fishing with bamboo fish traps at the Beel in Sylhet, Bangladesh, on January 15, 2024. Rural people, equipped with bamboo fish traps and handmade fishing nets, are participating in the 100-year-old winter polo bawa fishing festival at the Gowahori Beel of Biswanath Upazila. Locals say that the festival is celebrated every year on the first day of the Bangla month of Poush, and people from different parts of the Upazila come to the Beel with various kinds of fishing traps to join in the festivities.
