The Devil Of Tufara
A craftsman is preparing the devil's mask in a cellar in Tufara, Italy, on February 13, 2024. Shrove Tuesday is being celebrated according to tradition in Tufara, a small village in Molise. The Tufara carnival is renowned for its central figure, the Devil, a man who is wearing a papier-mache mask with a long tongue and a costume made of goat skins. The Devil of Tufara is appearing at the beginning of the festivities, screaming, running, and wriggling to frighten the spectators. This creature is always accompanied by two Elves and two Reapers, with whom he is enjoying creating commotion and making noise in the village's alleys. (Photo by Davide Pischettola/NurPhoto)
