Onondaga County Sheriff Crime Lab Collects Evidence At Suspect Residence

Police officers and evidence technicians from the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office are consoling each other and beginning the meticulous process of collecting evidence at the home of the deceased suspect, Christopher R. Murphy, on Darien Drive in Salina, New York, on April 16, 2024. This follows the tragic incident on the evening of April 14, 2024, when two police officers were killed by Murphy, and the suspect was subsequently killed by police during a shootout. On that Sunday evening, two Syracuse, New York police officers attempted to stop a suspicious vehicle. They recorded the license plate and traced it to the address on Darien Drive. Upon discovering that the suspect might be armed, they called for backup from the sheriff's office. When they located the vehicle at the home and observed potential weapons inside, an exchange of gunfire ensued. The Syracuse police officer, Michael Jensen, 29, from Rome, New York, and Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Hoosock, 37, from Clay, New York, were shot and later pronounced dead at a hospital in Syracuse, along with the suspect.
