ICJ Delivers Order On Nicaragua V Germany Case

Inside the courtroom before the session starts, the top United Nations court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, is rejecting Nicaragua's request to block Germany from selling weapons to Israel. The judges have voted 15 against 1 and are rejecting the request for an emergency order that would direct Germany to halt arms sales to Israel during a plausibly genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza. The court is concluding that, at present, the circumstances do not require the exercise of its power to indicate provisional measures, ICJ President Nawaf Salam is writing in the ruling. Outside The Peace Palace, a protest in support of Palestine and Nicaragua is being held in The Hague, Netherlands, on April 30, 2024.
