ICJ Delivers Order On Nicaragua V Germany Case

Carlos Jose Arguello Gomez, the head of Nicaragua's legal team and Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is giving a press statement and responding to questions from journalists after the session with the court's verdict in The Hague, Netherlands, on April 30, 2024. The top United Nations court, the International Court of Justice (ICJ), has rejected Nicaragua's request to block Germany from selling weapons to Israel. The judges voted 15 against 1 and refused the request for an emergency order that would direct Germany to halt arms sales to Israel amid a conflict with Palestinians in Gaza. The court concluded that the current circumstances do not require the exercise of its power to indicate provisional measures, as written in the ruling by ICJ President Nawaf Salam. Outside The Peace Palace during the session, a protest in support of Palestine and Nicaragua took place.
