Iran-Daily Life In Iran’s First Ever Nuclear Seaport City Of Bushehr
An elderly Iranian man is sitting in front of his shop at a bazaar in Bushehr, Iran, on April 28, 2024. Bushehr is Iran's first nuclear seaport city, located in Bushehr province on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf, 1090km (677 miles) south of Tehran. The city is notable for its nuclear power plant, which was initially contracted to the German company Siemens in 1975 to help provide electricity and diversify energy resources. However, the Islamic Revolution in 1979 halted construction, and political sanctions led Germany to cease its involvement. After a long delay, Iran reached an agreement with Russia in 2004 to complete the project. The Bushehr nuclear power plant became fully operational and connected to the national electricity grid in 2011, marking it as Iran's first and only active nuclear power plant.
