Iran-Daily Life In Iran’s First Ever Nuclear Seaport City Of Bushehr

A bazaar is bustling with activity in Bushehr, Iran's first nuclear seaport city, located in the Bushehr province on the northern coast of the Persian Gulf, 1090km (677 miles) south of Tehran, on April 28, 2024. The city is home to the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which Iran initially contracted with the German company Siemens to build in 1975 to provide electricity and diversify energy resources. The construction was interrupted by the Islamic Revolution in 1979, and subsequent political sanctions led Germany to cease its involvement. After a prolonged delay, Iran reached an agreement with Russia in 2004 to complete the project. The power plant became fully operational and was connected to the national electricity grid in 2011, marking it as Iran's first and only active nuclear power plant.
