Scavenger Scarab Beetles - Hybosorus

Hybosorus is a genus of scavenger scarab beetles in the family Hybosoridae that feed on decaying vegetation or the dung of grazing animals. There are about eight described species in Hybosorus. The body length of a male is about 11.5 to 12.3 mm. They have an elongate, oval body with a black dorsum and light-colored ventrum, although some individuals are dark reddish-brown. The head is very closely and rugosely punctate anteriorly. A scavenger scarab beetle from this genus sits on a girl's hand in Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on June 28, 2024.
