Cooperative Scam Victims Protest In Kathmandu

Vehicular movement in Kathmandu, Nepal, comes to a standstill on September 1, 2024, as ''victims'' of cooperative organizations stage a demonstration demanding the prosecution of scammers and the refund of their savings. Under the leadership of the Sahakari Bachatkarta Samrakshyan Rastriya Abhiyan (Mahasangh) or the Cooperative Depositors Protection National Campaign (Federation), an organization dedicated to protecting the interests and rights of individuals who save money through cooperative societies in Nepal, victims gather to voice their grievances. The demonstration sees participation from a wide range of individuals, including many elderly citizens, some of whom attend even while carrying their regular medications. The protesters demand the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for embezzling cooperative funds, as well as the return of money to the savers. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
