Spathosternum Prasiniferum - Short-horned Grasshopper - Animal India

A Spathosternum prasiniferum, a species of short-horned grasshopper from the family Acrididae, is seen perched on a weed leaf in the forest at Tehatta, West Bengal, India, on October 12, 2024. This herbivorous grasshopper, native to the Indomalaya region, is generally greenish with a distinctive black band running from behind its eyes to the pronotum. Its hind femur is greenish or rufotestaceous, and the hind tibia is green, with 10-11 spines apart from the apical one. The head is convex with a rounded fastigium, and the antenna has 21 segments.
