Toulouse: First Intense Heatwave Of The Summer In France
A thermometer reads 39.5?C (100?F) in Toulouse, France, on June 21, 2025. France experiences its first heatwave of the year, with some temperature records being broken, especially in the west. France is 8 to 15?C above normal temperatures for June. This heatwave results from an omega phenomenon where a mass of hot air is blocked by cooler air. Nearly all departments, such as Haute-Garonne (Toulouse), are placed on yellow alert for heat, and sixteen are placed on orange alert. This first heatwave coincides with climate experts stating that limiting global warming to +1.5?C, as agreed in 2015 during the COP21 in Paris, is not achievable. (Photo by Alain Pitton/NurPhoto)
