Leuser's Exclamations
An Acehnese Tamiang family, Andri, a 31-year-old head of the household, along with his spouse and two children, stands in the foreground of their destroyed residence in the Bandar Pusaka Sub-district of Aceh Tamiang District. Their home is devastated by severe flash floods caused by Tropical Cyclone Senyar. The cyclone results in the loss of at least 1,167 lives throughout Indonesia and affects more than 1,400 individuals across three countries in the Asia-Pacific region, amounting to an estimated US$19.8 billion in damages. The rising casualty numbers in Aceh Tamiang indicate a concerning trend of ecological disasters that increasingly jeopardize the vulnerable Leuser Ecosystem. (Photo by Sutanta Aditya/NurPhoto)
