Nepal Celebrates Festival Of “Paha Chahre” The Annual Chariot Festival Praying For Good Health And Protection From Calamities

Nepali revelers participate in the annual ''Paha Chahre'' chariot festival, praying for good health and protection from calamities, as they parade the idols of deities in an ancient city square of Kathmandu, Nepal, on March 19, 2026. The idols of Ganesh, Bhairav, Bhagwati, and Ashta Matrika are revered with a special chariot procession in the old marketplace of Ason in Kathmandu. In the local Newa: language, ''Paha'' means guest and ''Chahre'' means Chaturdashi. This day is also called ''Pishach Chaturdashi.'' There is an ancient tradition of celebrating the Chaturdashi of Chaitra Krishna Paksha with joy and excitement in the Newa: community. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
