Repatriated Mahagauri Parvati Idol Reestablished On World Heritage Day In Nepal

UK Ambassador to Nepal Rob Fenn poses for a photo with officials and devotees alongside the idol of Goddess Mahagauri Parvati during the reestablishment ceremony at Maru Tole in Kathmandu, Nepal, on April 18, 2026. The ceremony marks the reestablishment of the repatriated idol, which was returned to Nepal in 1996 after being stolen and taken to the United Kingdom. The sculpture had been preserved at the Chhauni National Museum before its reinstatement. The event coincides with World Heritage Day, observed annually to promote the preservation of cultural heritage. (Photo by Safal Prakash Shrestha/NurPhoto)
