Deadly shooting in Kyiv

Law enforcers stand outside a supermarket where an armed individual takes hostages in Kyiv, Ukraine, on April 18, 2026. On the afternoon of April 18, the individual opens fire on civilians in the Holosiivskyi district before seizing hostages inside the store. Negotiators attempt contact before KORD officers enter the premises and neutralize the individual. According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the individual is a 58-year-old Moscow-born man. The Interior Ministry reports that he possesses a legally registered carbine and shoots four people on the street before a fifth hostage is killed inside the supermarket.
