Trick roping, or ''floreo de reata,'' originated in Mexico as a performance art involving intricate lasso spinning, later popularized in the United States through Wild West shows and rodeos. Founded in 1947, the San Antonio Charro Association is dedicated to preserving the traditions of charreria, Mexico's national sport, which is the forerunner to American Rodeo.
