India’s High-Speed Train Vande Bharat Express In Kashmir, India

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel stands guard inside a coach of the Vande Bharat Express train at the Srinagar railway station, after being flagged off from Jammu Tawi railway station, in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 30, 2026. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flags off the 20-coach Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar, marking the launch of the first direct train service connecting the twin capitals of Jammu and Kashmir. The new service is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the two cities and provide a boost to tourism, regional mobility, and economic activity. It also enhances reliable, all-weather rail connectivity across the Union Territory, further integrating the Kashmir Valley with the national transport network. The route passes over the world's highest railway arch bridge, the Chenab Rail Bridge, before reaching the Kashmir Valley. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
