Pollen From Russian Poplar Trees Triggers Health Concern In Kashmir, India
A man rides a motorcycle as pollen from Russian poplar trees fills the air along a road in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on May 08, 2026. Pollen from Russian poplar trees, particularly the female Populus deltoides species, appears as white, cotton-like seed fluff that spreads across Srinagar during April and May. The airborne pollen is associated with respiratory problems and allergies, including asthma, allergic rhinitis, eye irritation, sneezing, and throat infections. Health experts estimate that nearly 30 percent of the Valley's population experiences some form of pollen-related allergic reaction. (Photo by Firdous Nazir/NurPhoto)
