Indonesian Muslims Parade Goats The City Streets On Eid Al-Adha Celebration

Residents parade hundreds of goats through the streets for 1.5 kilometers in Malang city, East Java, Indonesia, on May 27, 2026. This tradition, held since 1970 by residents of Temenggungan Village and Kidul Pasar Village, involves parading livestock before they are slaughtered during the Eid al-Adha celebration 1447 AH. The event takes place annually after the Eid prayer at the mosque and was initiated by religious scholars as a form of outreach to encourage animal sacrifices. It is believed to help keep the animals calm before slaughter. (Photo by Aman Rochman/NurPhoto)
