A view of the potter's village in Kolkata, India, on June 8, 2026. Kumartuli is a traditional potters' quarter located in North Kolkata along the Hooghly River, known for its craft of sculpting clay idols of Hindu deities. The name originates from the Bengali words ''Kumor'' (potter) and ''tuli'' (locality). This area is the primary source of more than 4,000 Durga idols used during Bengal's Durga Puja festival, which is recognized by UNESCO. These idols are supplied across India and exported to communities worldwide. (Photo by Debajyoti Chakraborty/NurPhoto)
