Flood Displaces Squatters Kept At Government Holding Centers In Nepal
Security personnel assist in transporting displaced squatters following flooding at a holding center in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 11, 2026. Heavy and continuous overnight rainfall caused the Bagmati River to swell, inundating the government-established Radhaswami Squatter Holding Center at Sundarighat, Kathmandu. Floodwaters entered the center, where families relocated from informal settlements had been taking shelter. Victims report that most of their household belongings, clothes, and other essential items were soaked and damaged after water entered the premises overnight. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
