Flood Displaces Squatters Kept At Government Holding Centers In Nepal

Educational materials belonging to displaced squatter children are laid out to dry at the flooded holding center in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 11, 2026. Heavy and continuous overnight rainfall caused the Bagmati River to swell, inundating the government-established Radhaswami Squatter Holding Center at Sundarighat, Kathmandu. Floodwaters entered the center, where families relocated from informal settlements were taking shelter. Residents report that most of their household belongings, clothes, and other essential items were soaked and damaged after the water entered the premises overnight.
