Flood Displaces Squatters Kept At Government Holding Centers In Nepal
People take shelter at a holding center in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 11, 2026, as they salvage belongings from the inundated government property after being evicted from their riverside settlement. Overnight heavy and continuous rainfall swells the Bagmati River, which flows through the capital, inundating the government-set Radhaswami Squatter Holding Center at Sundarighat, Kathmandu. Floodwaters enter the holding center, where families relocated from informal settlements have been taking shelter. Residents report that most of their household belongings, clothes, and other essential items are soaked and damaged after the water enters the premises overnight. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
