Flood Displaces Squatters Kept At Government Holding Centers In Nepal
Police stand guard at the entrance of an inundated government holding center in Kathmandu, Nepal, on July 11, 2026. The center, home to nearly 150 squatters evicted from riverside settlements, was flooded after heavy and continuous rainfall caused the Bagmati River to swell. Floodwaters entered the Radhaswami Squatter Holding Center at Sundarighat, where families relocated from informal settlements had been taking shelter. Residents report that most of their household belongings, clothes, and other essential items were soaked and damaged. (Photo by Subaas Shrestha/NurPhoto)
