Bangladesh: Cargo Ships Anchor On Karnaphuli River As Bad Weather Halts Chittagong Port Operations.
A high-altitude drone captures the extensive maritime congestion as numerous mother vessels wait offshore near the Karnaphuli River estuary in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on July 14, 2026. This follows a week-long operational halt due to severe monsoon weather. Continuous heavy rain and a local cautionary signal number 3 since July 5 have completely suspended loading and unloading operations at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram Port. To avoid the adverse maritime conditions, a thousand lighterage ships have moved upstream and anchored in consecutive rows near the Shah Amanat Bridge on the Karnaphuli River for safe harbor.
