Bangladesh: Cargo Ships Anchor On Karnaphuli River As Bad Weather Halts Chittagong Port Operations.
Expansive view of sheltered cargo ships on the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram, Bangladesh, on July 14, 2026. A broad drone view captures thousands of tons of cargo capacity sitting idle as lighter ships group together for safety on the Karnaphuli River. Continuous heavy rain and a local cautionary signal number 3 since July 5 have completely suspended loading and unloading operations at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram Port. To escape the hostile maritime conditions, a thousand lighterage ships have moved upstream and anchored in consecutive rows near the Shah Amanat Bridge on the Karnaphuli River to find safe harbor.
