Daily life in Azerbaijan

Pages of torn Koran remain in a box at an old closed mosque in Lezghi village in Caucasian mountains, Azerbaijan. Villages in Qusar region had their mosques which were built at the end of the XIX or the beginning of the XX century. During Soviet Union period, they were used as warehouses, but after Perestroika people started praying there again. For the last 10-15 years, the mosques have undergone destruction. The majority of these buildings are now closed down because they need restoration and nobody takes care of them. ( (Photo by Oleksandr Rupeta/NurPhoto))
