Hindu Devotees Celebrate Chhath Puja Festival

All the women are praying to the Sun God in the waist deep water during the Chhath puja celebrations in Kolkata, West Bengal on October 26, 2017. Chhath Puja also known as Surya Shasthi is an ancient Hindu festival which can be traced back to the Vedic age. This festival is dedicated to the Sun, the God of energy and of the life-force to convey the gratefulness for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and also for promoting well being, prosperity and progress. The rituals of this festival is celebrated rigorously over a period of four days and are mainly celebrated by the Bihari Indians and Nepalis. The Environmentalists are even of the opinion that Chhath Puja is the most eco-friendly Hindu festival. (Photo by Sushavan Nandy/NurPhoto)
