Turkish Journalist Gokmen Ulu Released from Prison
A photo taken in Ankara, Turkey on November 9, 2017 shows that Sozcu, a Turkish opposition daily newspaper, appears with a headline on its front page reading 'Freedom After 167 Days' after the release of the daily's reporter Gokmen Ulu ordered by a Turkish court in Istanbul on November 8. According to opposition statistics, Turkey has become one of the world's largest jailers of journalists, with approximately 800 journalists having their passports and press credentials confiscated, more than 150 jailed and more than 150 media outlets shut down since the last year's failed coup attempt.
