Political Satire Dominates Rose Monday Carnival Parades

A float featuring the situation between Air Berlin and Lufthansa is seen during the annual Rose Monday parade on February 12, 2018 in Dusseldorf, Germany. Lufthansa took over a large portion of Air Berlin's former routes and planes following Air Berlin's bankruptcy. Political satire is a traditional cornerstone of the annual parades. More than 30 music ensembles and 5,000 participants join the procession through the city. Elaborately built and decorated floats address cultural and political issues and can be satirical, hilarious and even controversial. The politically themed floats of satirist Jacques Tilly are famous the world over. (Photo by Romy Arroyo Fernandez/NurPhoto)
