Political Satire Dominates Rose Monday Carnival Parades
February 12th, Dusseldorf. In Düsseldorf, the calendar of Carnival events features no fewer than 300 Carnival shows, balls, anniversaries, receptions and costume parties. The motto this season is ‘Jeck erst recht’ (Carnival more than ever). The celebrations culminate in the Rose Monday Parade. More than 30 music ensembles and 5,000 participants join the procession through the city. Elaborately built and decorated floats address cultural and political issues and can be satirical, hilarious and even controversial. The politically themed floats of satirist Jacques Tilly are famous the world over. (Photo by Romy Arroyo Fernandez/NurPhoto)
