Bulgarian Rose Production

The process of making rose oil and rose water requires several rounds of distillation, explained Georgi Anastasov, chief technologist at the Intermed 1 Ltd. plant in the Rose valley in Bulgaria. A knob on a Florentine vase, a piece of equipment at the end of the distillation process, allows the prized oil to be separated from the water. Bulgaria is one of the world's main producers of roses which are harvested in the Rose Valley during the period of mid May to mid June. (Photo by Jodi Hilton/NurPhoto)
