People travelling on a Metrolink tram, in central Manchester, on Saturday 8th November 2014. -- The Manchester Metrolink is a light-railway transport system which operates through central Manchester to the outer suburbs of Altrincham, Ashton, Bury, East Didsbury, Eccles, Manchester Airport and Rochdale. The Metrolink is now the United Kingdom's largest tram system, with 57 miles of track. The operational rolling stock designed and built in Italy and carried 29.2 million people in 2014. Passengers and local residents frequently criticise the network for its poor performance due to delays and other problems, some of which are beyond the operator's control.
