Toddy Tapping In Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan toddy tapper Niroshan Thilakarathne places a clay pot to the edge of coconut flower atop a coconut tree to collect the sap in Wadduwa, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) south of Colombo, on August 20, 2019. Toddy is a local alcoholic drink made by fermenting the sap of the coconut’s flower. The traditional toddy industry is gradually becoming an endangered industry due to the rapid increase of illegal and artificial toddy manufacturers, who aid and abate the moonshine business by producing cheap, artificial toddy, unfit for human consumption.
