The Civil War In Northern Sri Lanka

Statue of Corporal Gamini Kularatne of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) at the Hasalaka War Hero War Memorial (Hasalaka Gamini War Memorial) located at the Elephant Pass, Northern Province, Sri Lanka on August 10, 2017. Corporal Gamini Kularatne was killed on 14 July 1991 while preventing an armored bulldozer belonging to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) from ramming into the Elephant Pass Army garrison during the First Battle of Elephant Pass. Corporal Kularatne used two hand grenades to kill the four-man crew inside the bulldozer and disabled the armored vehicle before being killed. Elephant Pass is a causeway which is the main gateway to the Jaffna Peninsula. Due to its strategic importance, army camps protecting the pass were attacked several times during the civil war.
