NBI Arrests 2 Members Of Notorious Terrorist Group
Jamar Garsula Ibi, a.k.a. “Bas” weeps as he sings in front of the media to prove his innocence during a press conference of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Manila, Philippines, on October 20, 2020. During the conference, Jamar appealed to the media that he is innocent and that he was actually a singer of a band who traveled to Manila hoping for a better fortune. The NBI announced arrests of two members of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Terrorist Group, including Jamar, who they say were part of a kidnapping activity in southern Philippines in 2002. The Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 which was signed into law in July 2020 drew heavy flak as human rights lawyers state that the law is “too vague” and is prone to abuse by authorities. NBI officials however assured the public that all of their agents value the rights of every human being. (Photo by George Calvelo/NurPhoto)
