The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway In India

The historic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway or DHR or know as Toy Train because of the narrow 2ft gauge on the slopes of the Himalayas in India. The train runs between New Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling in West Bengal, built-in 1881 and reaches an altitude of 2200m. above sea level. The locomotive uses diesel but B-Class steam locomotives are used as well and commute locals and tourists from Ghum to Darjeeling in a route with a panoramic view of the mountains, the slopes, the tea plantation and pass from the towns next to the houses and markets. Since 1999 UNESCO declared DHR a World Heritage Site, which now is in the list as Mountain Railways of India. Darjeeling, India on November 3, 2020 (Photo by Nicolas Economou/NurPhoto)
